Richard writes: “Basically taking in my interests in Battlefields and combining it with my professional knowledge as a Tourist Guide to give an outline, but not exhaustive, picture of what can be seen and visited today, halting at either 1900 or WW1.  I do not propose to include the WW2 era as that has already been well covered and nor do I intend to take a leaf out of Pete Higgs’ book either but give an overall picture of how we prepared for invasion
through the ages.
