Seaford’s Great War Camps and Training Areas: History and Legacy – Luke Barber

Luke writes: “The talk will describe the development of the North and South Camps at Seaford during the Great War, looking at their fabric and the life and training of the soldiers that were there. The talk will draw on documentary, cartographic, photographic and archaeological sources and will show that there is more surviving of this Great War legacy today than one may have thought”.

Luke Barber has worked as a professional archaeologist since leaving university in 1990. He worked for 15 years with Archaeology Southeast, followed by 15 years for the Sussex Archaeological Society.  Since 2020 he has worked freelance. Over the years he has worked on a number of projects on the Western Front in both Belgium and France.
